Sky Goes Black For Willy

Willie Harcourt-Cooze is the charismatic man behind the Venezuelan Black chocolate company and we’ve blogged about him before.

Well, in a latest twist in the tail The Telegraph reports that Willies success has attracted the attention of Hugo Chavez – President of Venezuela. Chavez has reportedly demanded an investigation into the activities of our Willie. There are accusations that he is not paying the appropriate prices for his cacao. And as nationalisations have become common-place under the ruling Chavez, Willies activities are now under the microscope.

I wonder what will happen? What are your thoughts?

  1. Isn’t this just a question of sour grapes? It’s always the same isn’t it. The “King” didn’t think of the midas touch himself and now he’s frankly p****d. So, okay, it might get a bit tough for Willie but hey, you know what, he’ll put 2 fingers up and get on with things like he always does. He’ll have el presidente eating out of his hands. It’s a storm in a teacup and it will blow over. In response to earlier blogs – no he’s not another Jamie Oliver – he’s just a man on a mission to make the best darned chocolate in the world – who wouldn’t be jealous of that. Any by the way – I’ve made all but the partridges recipes and they are fantastic – what a taste!!!!

  2. Wow! I just bought this chcolate today and now feel a little guilty! It would be awful if he wasn’t paying fair prices, but, hopefully the investigation will prove otherwise.

  3. Dreadful tiresome prolonged advert on Channel 4 for a very mediocre product. Sure Willy has exploited the locals. Hope he gets his just rewards. Victim of his own success. Don’t buy it – if you do you are encouraging the exploitation. VIVA CHAVEZ!
