Oorain Chocolate Sweetened With Maple Sugar

Yesterdays Sunday Telegraph gave a little mention to the Oorain brand of chocolate. Apparently they are discs of high quality chocolate that are sweetened with maple sugar. Oorain are a French company and if your French is better than mine you can read more about the company here. The chocolate includes these flavours:

  • milk
  • salt caramel
  • chilli pepper
  • mint
  • bitter chocolate

In the UK you can buy the product at Whole Foods Market – looks like an American company to me.

  1. About the Oorain products…

Tried some in the UK and France. Although the design of the box is exquisite, I find the chocolates very greasy. The flavor, although strong, seems to be artificial… and my girlfriend found a long black hair stuck to a Caramel, which totally disgusted me !

In conclusion : Nice design packaging, poor product quality !

  2. FYI: You can find Oorain chocolats on-line at http://www.indigeen.com

  3. I was looking for a place to leave comments on those. Like Cocoa Picker, I found the taste to be very strong… too strong to be natural, and the chocolate base is greasy.

I was given a salt caramel to taste : It looked fine, but again, like Cocoa Picker, there was a (short) black hair stuck inside the transparent plastic cover, stuck to the caramel… I guess someone is loosing hair big time in the factory.

In all I would stay away from those… Nice packaging though !
