Chocolate Egg Facts

Some Easter egg trivia:

  1. The first chocolate Easter egg was produced in 1873 by Fry’s.
  2. 2006 heralded the arrival of the unique Diamond Stella Egg - a chocolate egg laden with diamonds – which came with a whopping £50,000 price tag.
  3. Branded eggs are common. 2006 saw the launch of new chocolate eggs for Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble games.
  4. UK consumers are the biggest chocoholics in Europe, nibbling through an average 10 kilos per year – or 25% of all the chocolate eaten across Europe. This costs us about £4.3 billion - or about 20 new hospitals a year!
  5. The ubiquitous Cadbury Creme Egg was laid way back in 1971.
  6. The largest Easter egg ever made was constructed in Vegreville, AB. It weighed 5,000 pounds, and was 25.7 feet long.
  7. The most famous decorated Easter eggs were those made by the well-known goldsmith, Peter Carl Faberge.
