Chocolate Egg Facts
Some Easter egg trivia:
- The first chocolate Easter egg was produced in 1873 by Fry’s.
- 2006 heralded the arrival of the unique Diamond Stella Egg - a chocolate egg laden with diamonds – which came with a whopping £50,000 price tag.
- Branded eggs are common. 2006 saw the launch of new chocolate eggs for Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble games.
- UK consumers are the biggest chocoholics in Europe, nibbling through an average 10 kilos per year – or 25% of all the chocolate eaten across Europe. This costs us about £4.3 billion - or about 20 new hospitals a year!
- The ubiquitous Cadbury Creme Egg was laid way back in 1971.
- The largest Easter egg ever made was constructed in Vegreville, AB. It weighed 5,000 pounds, and was 25.7 feet long.
- The most famous decorated Easter eggs were those made by the well-known goldsmith, Peter Carl Faberge.
